Privacy Policy — TAK Simulator
Last updated: May 2, 2026
Overview
TAK Simulator (“the App”) is an Android application for simulating TAK (Team Awareness Kit) scenarios for training, exercises, and system testing. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
Data We Collect
Data You Provide
- TAK Server credentials — hostnames, port numbers, usernames, passwords, and SSL/TLS certificates you enter to connect to TAK servers.
- Scenario data — callsigns, UIDs, routes, waypoints, and timing configurations you create within the App.
- Imported files — TAK data packages (
.zip) and scenario files (.takscenario.xml) you choose to import from your device.
Data the App Generates
- Simulated CoT (Cursor-on-Target) messages — XML position reports sent to TAK servers you configure. These contain the callsigns, coordinates, and team attributes you define.
How Data Is Used
All data is used exclusively to operate the simulation you configure:
- Server credentials are used to establish connections to the TAK servers you specify.
- Scenario and actor data is used to generate and transmit CoT messages to those servers.
- Imported files are parsed locally to populate your scenarios.
The App does not transmit any data to Anthropic, the developer, or any third-party service. All network traffic goes only to the TAK server addresses you explicitly configure.
Data Storage and Security
- Scenario data is stored locally on your device in a private application database.
- Server credentials (passwords and certificate blobs) are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM via the Android Keystore system.
- Scenario export files may optionally include encrypted credentials (PBKDF2 + AES-GCM) when you choose to export them; by default, credentials are excluded from exports.
Permissions
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
INTERNET | Connect to TAK servers you configure |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Keep the simulation running when the app is in the background |
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / file access | Import scenario and data package files from your device |
Data Sharing
The App does not share any personal data with third parties. CoT messages are sent only to the TAK server addresses you configure. No analytics, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting services are included.
Data Retention
All data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all app data at any time through Android Settings → Apps → TAK Simulator → Clear Data. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be published with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
